Bespoke Lifting Solutions for Zone 1 Environments Provided by Outreach Offshore
Outreach Offshore has provided a specialist lifting solution to match requirements within an ATEX rated area. Outreach Offshore supplied and installed a hydraulic knuckle boom crane fitted with radio remote control with the ability for safe use in a Zone 1 area, where there is a high risk of explosion. For this project, Outreach offshore provided a bespoke solution to meet the site requirements.

A PK150002-M marine crane ATEX rated with DNVGL approval was selected, with some essential modifications. The system was designed to use a stand-alone power pack (HPU) which was installed within the Safe area of the site and was subsequently connected to the crane by installing pipe spools and electrical cabling routed via culverts and cable trays. This solution allows safe maintenance of the HPU and power supplies without the need to enter the Zone 1 area.
The crane was mounted on a bespoke foundation seat that was installed on the quayside by excavating and tying into the existing structure. Outreach Offshore installed the crane and HPU and thereafter commissioned, set to work and load tested using a water bag. Commissioning documentation, safe systems of work and using comprehensive risk assessment and method statements, were used to control the health and safety aspects of the project.
As part of our comprehensive service packages, Outreach Offshore also provided third party accredited ALLMI crane operator training. The training was carried out based on the needs of the site and in accordance with the guidelines from ALLMI course delivery.
Outreach Offshore can provide specialist lifting solutions to comply with the applicable standards and site conditions. All systems and solutions are engineered to a high standard, where we work closely with PALFINGER engineering design to ensure we supply the right crane for each application.
